An itinerary with some gentle trekking staying in lodges of the Solokhumbu (lower Everest) region of Nepal. This trip has beautiful trails connecting cosy lodges and traditional villages from Sherpa, Tamang and other peoples. We spend time alongside villagers helping out in the kitchen gardens, learning a few local tricks in our hosts’ kitchens and sitting with nuns and monks in beautiful ancient gompas (monasteries).
The trails weave in and out of the middle hills (pahad) with views of the high peaks (himal), including (fingers crossed!) Mount Everest.
Talk to us about your preferred dates. We recommend November, December, Feb & March
We’ve chosen the Solokhumbu area for many reasons: beautiful trails, stunning views, quiet and off the beaten track from the main trekking areas; and also because our staff are from this area so we have family connections everywhere we go. Expect to be welcomed in for tea in many houses!
Each day starts with an optional yoga and stretch session. Yoga mats etc are included in the trip for your use, as are all meals, drinking water and use of duffel bags, thick down jackets and sleeping bags.
The sleep heights on this trail are between 2400 and 2900m altitude. We might feel the effects of less available oxygen in that we puff a bit harder on some of the climbs, but we are generally below the height where acclimatisation is necessary. And of course we are trekking slowly ...................
An 11 day trip beginning and ending in Kathmandu. We have three nights in hotels and 7 in local lodges. Days 1 and 2 - Kathmandu, a hike, some city exploring and time to get into the swing of Nepali life.
Days 3 and 4 - jeep based adventures as we follow the Sun Koshi (river) to the renowned Hindu and Buddhist devotion sites at the Halesi caves, then upward into the middle hills to Junbesi and a shift to two feet.
Days 5 to 8 are filled with invites to local homes, learning to cook Sherpa and other local dishes, a little farming for the so inclined and joyful gompa visits! These are all connected by gentle trekking on good trails between the small villages of the lower Solukhumbu region, with some great mountain views and stunning scenery along the way.
Day 9 - 10 are journeying by jeep soaking up the sights before arriving back where we started in Kathmandu.
Day 11 - we say farewell.
